Catechist: Virginia Cambalik
Assistant: Mark Cambalik
Student Expectations:
1 Mass Attendance- To make Mass more meaningful the history of what takes place at the Mass and the history related to Mass prayers will be discussed. Mass will be discussed as a part of our relationship with God. Sunday mass scriptures can be found at usccb.org/bible/readings if you would like to review the mass readings with your family prior to attending mass.
2 Class attendance- We understand sickness, weather and emergencies may prevent a student from attending class please email me when your student may have missed a class or have your student see me when they return for work they may need to make up. Students should be prepared for class, please come on time with their books, and any homework that may have been assigned. Cell phones are sometimes used in class as part of the lesson however students should have them put away when not in use.
3 Homework will only be assigned if course work is not finished during class time or if a special project is being worked on. Students are encouraged to practice their prayers daily and families are encouraged to pray together. Students will be encouraged to also share what they are learning with their family.
4. Quizzes will be given periodically through the year about every 6-7 lessons. They are verbal quizzes really meant as a review and to help motivate all students to be ready.
5. Students will choose their Patron Saint for confirmation and prepare a report that they will present to the class. A bible story will be chosen by me that reflects an attribute of the Saint chosen for further discussion during class. A written outline of what students should know about their Saint will be provided early in the religious education year.
6. We will be doing a class service project more information will be sent along when the students decide what we will do.
The class room:
We have a question jar in the classroom for students to anonymously write a faith question they have to be discussed in class, we answer a question every other class or so. We have a prayer basket that students can add names to for longer term prayer needs and we also ask for individual intentions verbally at the end of each class as we pray. We have a table set up that displays our class bible and the cross as well as our prayer basket, students are encouraged to bring an item that speaks to them that they feel should also be on the table
Communicating:
Periodically I will email you anything I need to pass along to you. I will also be at the classroom for a few minutes after class, you can also contact me by email St.CharlesBorromeo.VCambalik@gmail.com
Our class mass is March 27th. Please plan to attend as a family.
We are looking forward to a great experience this year with our main focus of helping students understand how our faith can personally fit into their daily lives, it will be an exploration of who they are within the church family and as a child of God. We are hoping our students will feel empowered by the Catholic Faith as they continue their journey.
Much Peace, faith and health to your student and family!
